During the easter break I began to doubt my topic as I felt that it was quite limited. However this was probably because I started my research just by looking at fairytale illustrators and took the title too literally.
In this time I mainly focused on different ways I could look at my title and how the title could be the act of someone transforming one's perception of something, e.g. an image, from reality into fantasy and visa versa.
I therefore decided that I would experiment with layering different images on photoshop, a method which I used for one of my previous projects and one which I thought was very successful.
During the easter holidays I went to Montpelier in France, an area where there are lots of lakes and marsh land surrounded by land. Therefore there was lots of wildlife and the surrounding landscape made for very interesting imagery. During my trip I kept my topic in mind and took some photographs of mainly nature relates things that I thought might apply to my project.
For example there were many reeds surrounding the various expanses of water and it was something about how they looked that made me think of my sub-topic of fairytales.
For the image of the reeds I was also experimenting with some of the filters on my camera and thought that this particular "photo illustration" picture made the reeds have an interesting texture.

To start off my experimentation I took my a previous collaged image of a fairytale wheel I did inspired by those seen on Guy Dias' drawing along with the photograph of the reeds pictured above and an image of ripples in water which I also took while I was away.

END RESULTS:
The different layer blending options gave me many credible outcomes but these were a few of my favourites.
COLOUR BURN
DIFFERENCE
VIVID LIGHT
The water gave the image a new context, blurring it and making the picture look as though it could be part of someone's distorted memory or flashback of the past.
By having the wheels in the background layer they often appeared very subtle and sometimes looked as though they were engraved or etched into the image.
The filtered photograph of the reeds gave the image its illustrative aspect, adding interesting textures and colours to the image when I experimented with the different layer blending options.
